Jesus is the Son of God

A Reflection by Fred Schaeffer, OFS

“Whoever believes that Jesus is the Son of God, God remains in him and he in God.” (1 John 4: 15) Since we believe this, we try to eliminate sin in our lives out of love for God. But if this is not the case, please repent and sin no more.

Mankind's greatest tragedy is that many of us are unhappy. In our own pain we have the tendency to lash out and hurt people we hold dear. When many of us hurt, the whole world needs to pay attention, but in truth that will never happen, so we are alone in our hurt and we are miserable. Then someone says a good word, and the mood passes.

I have a visitor who comes twice a week to do some light cleaning, dishes, make my bed properly, laundry, and help me in many ways; she has a tremendous sense of humor. Laughs a lot, and thus I laugh a lot, and whatever unhappiness lingers is soon gone. Praise the Lord!

I have another way to change my mood – Eucharistic Adoration. I do not have a car anymore (can’t afford it these days), so I can’t do adoration in Church*. EWTN has live adoration, (which one can view on a Smart TV, or on a computer). When my mood is off-kilter, I immerse myself in Eucharistic Adoration; and pretty soon I have joy in my heart. I strongly recommend this to all Catholics.

I make it sound so easy (to get into a happy mood), but it isn’t. Most of the time it takes real work: interior conversion and penance, but accomplishing this with Jesus present (when you adore Him in the Blessed Sacrament) at your side, it is much easier.

Jesus promised us His love, (see John 3:16, and other Scriptures). He wants to help, will you let Him into your life, more often?

Peace and all Good,

bro Fred
