Complete trust in the Lord.
A Reflection by Fred Schaeffer, OFS
Many people suffer from anxiety. People are afraid of happenings over which they have no control. Living in Florida, we are often anxious about hurricanes. There is absolutely nothing you can do to stop their advance, but you can get prepared. So far this year, there have been no storms that put us in danger, but the season isn’t over yet.
A friend of mine in the Philippines told me she fears earthquakes since the town where she resides lies on a fault line. She can’t move for lack of resources, but she has trust in the Lord, and that’s the best weapon of all.
When you trust in the Lord, He will protect you. Pray to the Blessed Mother and to the Lord for protection. “The Rosary is the weapon for our times.” Padre Pio (St. Pius) said that. In the Catechism of the Catholic Church, 409 – “This dramatic situation of "the whole world [which] is in the power of the evil one" makes man's life a battle: the whole of man's history has been the story of dour combat with the powers of evil, stretching, so our Lord tells us, from the very dawn of history until the last day. Finding himself in the midst of the battlefield man has to struggle to do what is right, and it is at great cost to himself, and aided by God's grace, that he succeeds in achieving his own inner integrity.”
Living this life is a battle. It is so difficult to find good programming on TV, programs that are based on common decency. The devil does his utmost to divert us from the grace of God. But our Lord will prevail. We just need to have a little more faith. Place your complete trust in Him, He will see you through.
Pray, pray, and pray! Pray for forgiveness of your own shortcomings and the sins of other people. Trust in the Lord completely.
